On December 1, 2018, community members gathered in Marquette’s 707 Hub for our Kickoff event. We were proud to share what we have been working on in our first year as TEDxMarquetteU!

The Kickoff began with guests connecting with tabling organizations. We were honored to host leaders from Honey for Your Tea, Exploit No More, WYSE, Advocacy Services, She’s the First, and HER Campus.

After the networking session, we screened four TED Talks by women who inspire us:

  1. I was human trafficked for 10 years. We can do more to stop it. | Barbara Amaya | TEDxMidAtlantic
  2. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable | Luvvie Ajayi | TEDWomen 2017
  3. The power of defining yourself | Amma Asante | TEDxBrixton
  4. Why I fight for the education of refugee girls (like me) | Mary Maker | TEDxKakumaCamp

The Kickoff event concluded with a panel with Katy Adler of Advocacy Services, Jarrett Luckett of Exploit No More, Bria Smith of Honey for Your Tea, and Molly McLaughlin of WYSE. Panelists discussed the work they do for women and girls–and what keeps them going.

Our Kickoff event is complete, but the conversation is far from over. We believe there are yet-untapped ideas in the Milwaukee community. We are excited to continue amplifying unique, bold, and innovative voices at our main event. We hope to see you there.
